Ahmedabad Arts and Culture Center alongside Sabarmati river, INDIA
Master’s degree diploma projectAarhus School of Architecture, studio Contex, 2014
The main architectural idea was to create a “new terrain” with ramp and stair integration into the naturally sloping landscape. The architectural assignment involved the design of the riverside public space, arts education and culture center.
As a result of the research and site visit, I made a proposal for a group of public
buildings with shared spaces unifying the complex. Eventually this project became an investigation in finding the potential and problems laying in the establishment of the public space in Indian context.
In parallel to the design proposal for educational facility accommodation, this academic project researched the possibility of re-designing pedestrian walkway laying along Sabarmati river and bordering the problematic site. The emphasis of primary design task was on the challenge to unite building volumes and creating a coherent sequence of urban public spaces in relation to water.
Eventually, the open question is how to create a public building which would suites local community and wider city public needs.
